About
Sheryl grew up in a small town in Michigan, where she developed a strong affinity for all things media from a very young age. From as early as four years old, she would watch the Today Show (then hosted by Bryant Gumbel and Jane Pauley) with her grandmother every morning. She was fascinated with the way television could make its way into everyday life to inform and entertain the masses, and dreamed of being a TV host one day. Her other grandmother ignited her interest in home shopping and Sheryl has trained under two well-known casting agents who specialize in this industry. She is currently an On-Air Guest at TSC, Canada's home shopping channel.
With an innate sense of curiosity and as a born question-asker, after graduating from high school Sheryl began her studies in journalism at Central Michigan University where she sharpened her writing skills through her classes and working as a news reporter for the college newspaper, CM Life. Perhaps her greatest accomplishment of her undergraduate career was the internship of which she found and landed for herself at Us Weekly Magazine in New York. The internship was perfectly in line with her love of entertainment, fashion, beauty and pop culture. There, she gained hands on experience in the fast-paced magazine industry, assisting with everything from man-on-the-street interviews, to compiling entertainment news for the editorial staff and attending fashion and entertainment happenings in the city on behalf of the publication (including New York Fashion Week).
Upon graduating from CMU, Sheryl was fortunate to land writing, marketing and communications positions in a variety of industries including law, real estate, finance, non-profit and human resources. Though these opportunities offered her a wealth of knowledge in business and management, she yearned to express herself creatively. Her love of beauty and aesthetics influenced her to begin a side endeavor in makeup artistry. She has worked as a makeup artist at many events, including weddings, fashion shows and formal engagements. She also holds an IMDB credit as makeup artist for the award-winning short film "Message," from Set Jester Productions.
Sheryl chose to attend Wayne State University to attain her master's degree in communication with a focus on journalism while working full-time, and graduated in May of 2014 with an above average GPA. During her studies at Wayne State, Sheryl completed an internship at WJBK FOX 2 Detroit in their Healthworks department. There, she was able to combine her love of television news with her passion for health and wellness by conducting interviews and gaining experience in writing news packages, VO-SOTS and the evening news headlines. It was a perfect fit and an irreplaceable experience where she received high accolades from her supervisors. During this time, she also received a television hosting certificate through Marki Costello's TV Hosting Bootcamp in New York, and studied TV hosting under New York casting director Barbara Barna Abel, as well as TV hosting and home shopping hosting under casting agent Sean DeSimone.
With a desire to further her television experience, Sheryl created a side endeavor with an actor friend, a web series called Inside Michigan Hollywood, where she hosted, produced and directed two webisodes. In September of 2014, Sheryl was named the season three host of MetroArts Detroit, a television program that features artists from the metropolitan Detroit area. She has interviewed fine artists, musicians, dancers, comedians, designers, actors and producers for the show.
Additionally, Sheryl has anchored Lake Orion's ONTV News and Southfield's Cable 15 News and serves as a freelance communications and social media expert, researching, writing and producing on a variety of topics including current events, fashion, beauty, job seeker advice, health and holistic wellness, pop culture and tech. She has written and worked for clients that include CareerBuilder, Jane.com, Captain Morgan, eBay, SKype, Widbook, DTE Energy, Optimizely, Ms. Career Girl, StoryChick, Identity Magazine, Great Lakes Bay Magazine and more.
She has been featured as a guest celebrity news commentator on WetPaint's The Tea TV, where she Skypes in to chat about the latest celebrity and television news and has joined segments that include talking with stars from The Bachelor, CW's Riverdale and Jersey Shore. She also acts as Director of Storytelling for Skin Boutique -- a high-end medical spa -- where she coordinates the business's social media and marketing efforts.
