Dear Hiring Manager:
It is my pleasure to provide you with a letter of recommendation for Sheryl Coonan. Sheryl completed her internship in the Healthworks Department at Fox 2 News during Summer 2012. I was her direct supervisor. I can say without exception, Sheryl was the most professional, conscientious intern I’ve ever had. Sheryl showed a genuine interest in all the stories she covered, and I knew that when I put an assignment in her capable hands, I could be confident it would be handled completely.
Sheryl’s responsibilities included:
- helping answer viewer email and phone requests
- helping identify and conceptualize good stories
-setting up story shoots
-accompanying the videographer to shoots & conducting interviews
-logging sound and video
-researching and writing stories
-field producing on-location for live shots & taped stories
One of Sheryl’s best assets is her ability to make people feel at ease during interviews. I received several compliments from interviewees on her kind, reassuring demeanor. Even when the stories became difficult or emotional, Sheryl was always able to be empathetic and caring, while continuing to do her job and bring back all the right elements for a great story.
In closing, I feel Sheryl would make a wonderful asset to any office, whether it’s a newsroom or a more conventional corporate setting, particularly if the position involves interpersonal communication. Sheryl was a joy to supervise and an asset to our department.
Please feel free to contact me with further questions.
Sincerely,
Sean Lee

To Whom It May Concern:
Please accept this recommendation for Sheryl Coonan, a Wayne State University graduate who earned an M.A. degree in Communication with a Journalism emphasis in 2014. During her final year in the graduate program, Sheryl was the host for a television show produced at Wayne State
called MetroArts Detroit. I am the faculty advisor for the show so I worked closely with her. Additionally, I was Sheryl’s graduate faculty advisor, mentor and teacher.
In her role on MetroArts Detroit, she did an excellent job as the host by doing research prior to each show taping and developed a terrific rapport with the guests. Sheryl had an exceptional ability to follow the guests during their interviews and her comments and questions were relevant
and interesting. She was the host for all 14 shows during our third season. The show is produced in cooperation with Detroit Public Television and showcases artists and musicians throughout the metro Detroit area.
When Sheryl was a student in my COM 5381 TV News Reporting and Digital Editing class, I was impressed with the maturity and effort she displayed. In this class, Sheryl worked on the mechanics of shooting video and editing television news stories, focusing on reporting
techniques, and exhibited a strong broadcast writing style. For this course, she learned nonlinear video editing on AVID systems and completed a reporter demo reel. Sheryl also completed an internship at Fox 2, WJBK-TV in Detroit, hosted the Inside Michigan Hollywood
program based in Midland, Michigan.
As a graduate student, Sheryl’s grades were above average with a final G.P.A. of 3.56. Based on the experiences I’ve had with Sheryl, I have no reservations about giving her a positive recommendation. Her M.A. degree, combined with her experience working with various media
outlets, make her an outstanding candidate for many types of job opportunities. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Kimmerly S. Piper-Aiken, Ph.D.

To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to strongly recommend Sheryl Coonan for virtually any opportunity involving feature journalism or the broadcast media.
I have been teaching, running internship programs and doing job placement for more than 30 years. I had Ms. Coonan as a student in one very demanding class, and also supervised her in an equally demanding broadcast internship at the FOX affiliate in Detroit.
She was a very strong student from an academic perspective, but what especially impressed me was her poise, grace under pressure and ability to multitask. She took the class from me at night after she put in a full day as a human resources executive and a 30-mile commute. But she was always on time, got her work done, and was both pleasant and unflappable. She has a distinct style and distinct strengths in a number of areas, including fashion, style and health writing.
My guess is that she would be an excellent television personality, but would also have the brains and managerial skills to be a producer or director.
She has a nice writing style as well, for both print and broadcast.
I think she'd likely be a success at whatever she tried, and an excellent addition to any organization, both in terms of professional and social skills. I myself am not a typical academic; I have had a dual career as a professor and full-time journalist for more than 30 years. I've been a traveling foreign correspondent as well as a writer and editor for many national, regional and local newspapers and magazines. Currently I am Michigan Public Radio's senior political analyst in addition to many other responsibilities.
I've trained, worked with and hired a lot of talent, and if I were again building an organization, Sheryl Coonan would be someone I might very well try to hire for a number of roles.
If I can provide more information or be of any other assistance, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].
Sincerely,

To Whom it May Concern,
I have known Sheryl Coonan for over 10 years. Sheryl and I worked together at ADP and at EDSI. She is a very hardworking and honest individual. She is always willing to help others out and will do whatever it takes to get the job done. I would highly recommend her for any position within an organization.
I cannot say enough great things about Sheryl. Her coworkers at both ADP and EDSI truly respect her and know that she is someone they can always count on. Companies that she had as clients at ADP would tell others about how great she is to work with. Her past clients always would say she provided us with a new system that we really needed and didn't sell us anything extra. Sheryl's clients time and time again would always say "she will always respond back in a timely manner".
Coworkers at EDSI truly respect Sheryl for who she is. She is approachable, knowledgeable on so many areas of the company and has a positive attitude every day!! She always brings new ideas to the table. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to have worked with such a wonderful coworker.
Feel free to contact me with any questions.
